today's rehearsal we sounded GREAT.

But there were still tiny wheeny mistakes found.

And it's been repeated a million times in band already.

It wouldn't kill a cell in you just to jot it down into your score.

And they weren't even the ones who aint hardworking in band.

Heart wrenching or not? Your probably dont even care huh.

Sure, let's be complacent till the real SYF and see who will be the act regret ones crying k.

I've changed the "MUSICIANS" segment and added some of our achievements.

Since i've put in my effort in UPDATING the blog.

Please note that Section Leader Test is coming, it will be on 3rd of June.

Everyone in the main band are expected to learn:

B-flat major, E-flat major and F major scales (best if you memorise, or at least try and remember the sharps and flats.)
A Prairie Portrait (it will be anywhere in the piece, so make sure you know the rhythms of the whole piece, the articulation: e.g. tone, blend, balance...)

It can be anybody taking the test, so you never know whether will it be you...
So, all the best for the test!

As for the holiday schedule, it will be posted tomorrow on the blog.
Parent's letter will be given on during band practice (Fri, 23 May).

You'd manage to pass through this GEL camp..
hahahhaa not that hard anyway....
So far, i hope you all know how to GEL your hair now... JUSTTT JOKING~~
But i hope all of you had learned something from this camp..
through helping each other passing through the games that you all had played
all of you had done great and all of you are winners.
the Excos hope that this camp would be a small stepping stone to bring KCB into great heights.

from the feedback session, i love the feedbacks coming in.. even the bad ones.

1-Hand Ranks
Please remember to bring your money for the hands ranks provided on Thursday.
Those who do not know the prices for your own hand ranks, please contact Eevon.

Note that all hand ranks is a must to bring to all band practice.
Those who never bring their hand ranks will be punished.
Effect will be starting after 10th September.

2-Band Practices
Everytime after falling in, always remember.
Step1-Every single one of you take your own chairs and put it accordingly.
Step2-Take your instruments in the storeroom cupboard.
Step3-Sit on your own chairs and set up your instruments on it.
Step4-Sit down quietly and wait for your conductor, Mr Sim or Miss Leong.
Step5-When conductor arrives, greet him/her and sit down quietly.
Step6-Respect the conductor always, when he/she is talking, don't talk and pay attention, everything is he/she say is essential to our learning ears.

If i see anyone hanging out and sitting at the auditorium chairs and chat, you all will have a jolly good time with me.

I don't want you all to dilly dally talk here talk there and take ur instruments. Just take your instruments quickly and you can talk all you want until the conductor comes.

I allow you all talk to at your own sits untill your conductor comes.

These instructions had been told clearly to you all. I don't want to keep repeating them.
Disobey them, You'll get it.

I would really encourage and recommend you KCBANDERS to go for this concert especially the brasses.
And get to listen to the proper sound they produce so that you'll know whether are you on the right track to improve further.
Experience the sound created by the Phill Winds in the Esplanade is simply wonderful for those who never attend any band concert before.

By the way, you'll get to see our conductor, Mr Sim himself, playing his flute in the concert in Philharmonic Winds.

There will be an outreach programme on 7th july 2007 saturday.
The aim of this programme is to increase awarness of DSA in JC through band and hopefully encouraged secondary school students to DSA in JC through band.

It will be a one day camp, targeted on secondary school students who are interested to continue their CCA with band in JC. This is a great opportunity for band members to interact and share their ideas in music. Participants are required to bring their instruments except for percussionist. Music scores to be played during the camp will be arranged to be send to your school before the event.

Infomation of this camp:
date: 7th july 2007 (this Saturday)
time: 9am to 5pm
venue: YJC
ppl invited: anyone who is interested (sec 3s and 4s are more encouraged to go)
For those who want to go, pls inform Robin by latest this thursday.
Those who are not sure how to get there, there will be further notice.

*For those who do not know wat is DSA, DSA is a direct school admission to JC using cca or talent or leadership.*

Farewell, KCB, the love.
We've been through so much together.
Attaining a bronze in the most recent SYF central judging of concert bands, performing at the esplanade and receiving the loudest applause, attaining a silver in the 1st annual band competition, led to our 1st band concert and tons more, including the film favourites performance in the canteen which was a big flop!
Never forgetting all the fun and laughters at every practice.
Everything would be impossible without all of you.
We overcame all of these TOGETHER.
Now that the excos and the graduating batch are stepping down, continue to build up the band and bring the band to greater heights!
All of you can definitely achieve it, TOGETHER!
I am sure all of us are aware that teamwork is very very impotant. [:
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my very last major performance with all of you last evening.

hey dear BAND!

dun feel sad over wat we got.

the standard went up,
and its really good that we maintained it.
its shows that we improve,
because we can even maintained the bronze medal even when the standard when up.
even band who got gold with honours decline to silver.

and i feel for banders,
as long as you noe u did ur very best ,
you work hard,
you put in a lot a lot effort,
its enough, really.
it does not really matter wat we got,
because rmb wat i said?
the standard changed, its diferent.
its always good to maintain than drop.
the thing is we did improve right??

and dun be sad.
for those ppl who cried and feel guilty,
go think and reflect.
if u feel that you did work hard and really practice like hell,
den dun have to feel guilty,
you already tried your best right?

for ppl who think that its LOL okay its a bronze,
you better go think and reflect.

Dear BAND,

It's exactly 15 days to SYF ! I'm sure there's a certain level of excitement in most of you people already !
Now, this SYF competition is one of the major events in any band's history.
Every band will be waiting for this moment to come, and sad to say, some had missed their chance of participating and they'll have to wait for 2 more years.
In the past, KCB had missed one of the syf competitions due to sars, it was really a pity. But now, through all and all we've experienced, these are stepping stones to success (:
And the upcoming success I'm sure of will be on 9 April, the very day itself !
And band, I want you all to know that, success doesn't come overnight. You guys have to really really work hard, put in all the efforts that you've never did before, be independent and learn your scores.
I know some of you are really working hard, really putting in the effort, I'm very very glad to know that :D
For those who haven't been putting in much effort, START TODAY. It's not too late, it's never too late if you have the heart to do it (:
If we can pull through the difficult times together as a band, we can taste success as one too !

This SYF competition will be a first time experience for the sec 1s and 2s, and the 2nd time for the rest.
I just want you all to enjoy the moment on stage, don't think about the outcome. Most importantly, it's the moments spent together as one that matters.
And how do we achieve that ?
Focus, Concentration, Practice HARD, Memorise your scores, Train up your air, Build up your tone etc
= TONE BLEND BALANCE
We've been training for months just for that few minutes on stage. Now that the competition's coming, we have to press on! Only 15 more days to success !
& SLs, do settle certain things within your sections. You guys are SLs for a reason, you have the potential to build up your section. Be it the tone or the unity. Bring your potential out, Section Leaders.
Sometimes it takes time and hard work to tune each and every single one of them in the section and to ensure every individual has a nice intonation, but don't forget that at the end of the day, it'll benefit them and they'll be the ones who do you proud ! Alright ?

A note to the sec 4s,
Hah, I believe it's kinda sad for us huh ? It'll be the last for most of us, our last lap. But don't give up on music !
Those that are really into it, work hard for it after O levels ! After syf, we'll all step down as one. And during POP night, it'll be official. Treasure the times you have with each other, but work hard for your Os at the same time.

Lastly, I just want to say that this band, KCB will be my love forever.

Hey !

Ignite D' Amore tomorrow ! Work hard alright ? (:
Relax, and enjoy yourselves on stage tomorrow ! Be confident and we will make it possible.
Recall the fundamentals, the teachings by mr sim and we will be great.
KCB has gone through much much obstacles to take up Mr Low's challenge which is the concert itself.
And no, this is not the end point of our journey, but just one of the check points in the band's history, for the next few batches, generations, everything to keep the band's reputation up there.
Relax, go up there and play it confidently, show it to the 600 audience out there what KCB has got in them.
Woodgrove band major admired our spirit, let's keep it going on and touch more hearts of others.

im glad that you ppl enjoyed drills ytd,
drills can be real fun right?

its just so so touching when i heard sec2s telling me that drills are so fun,
drills can be tiring,
but always rmb, other banders are doing together with you,
we sweat and get tired together.
even those who are commanding you are tired,
they have to make the drills strict yet fun.
too strict, you ppl wont like it,
too fun, it will be too slackish,
right right? agree?

now, we still have to work towards better drills for syf video,
and also our playing for concert then syf.

HELLO.

Here's something I have for you guys, do read on (:

KCB is really fortunate to have Mr Sim, the man of the band. I sure you all know that (:
Through the experience, practice, scoldings with/from him,
we displayed our first successful performance in Esplanade on 26 March 2006,
also scored a Silver for National Band Competition last July.
What will be next ?

You guys have gone so far. All the hardwork and commitment put in has added

You guys have to persevere on no matter what ! We've already gone through so much in the beginning,
two more are nothing.
Every public performance is important to every band.
Every competition regardless major or minor, defines where a band has come to.
Well, both will be coming to us soon,
it takes months to practice, but it takes just minutes or hours on that day to prove everything.

We all have moods, don't we ? In any case, any of you feel like giving up because you
don't know how to play that particular bar, that piece, that tone, feel free to talk to the Excos !
We're here to guide you. We're not scary, we won't bite :D
Trust the Excos, trust yourselves.
Drills can be fun, drills can be boring, depending on how you put it across your mind.
The excos start off every practice reminding themselves drills will be fun,
practice will be great.
What about you ? TRY IT TOMORROW ! :DD
The excos didn't like to punish, scold, or even nag at the band.
We're all trying to help and guide you guys along, and we really appreciate it if the band understands (:

This will be the last year for most of the sec 4s.
And sec 4s, last 2 major projects ! Let's do it well !
Study hard too ! In fact, it's 3 major projects !
We must clear O levels with our target points :D

Right attitude/mindset + Discipline + Participation + Enjoyment + Concentration = FUN
Band practice can always be fun, especially sectionals !
It's actually a time for you to learn with one another, bond, and practice !
Sometimes it's alright to take a break, but do make sure you know what you are not sure of
at the end of the sectionals.
Sectionals are only boring when one doesn't take it seriously (:

Lastly, I'm sure you guys didn't forget the " Mr Sim " Quote.
If I CAN'T, then I MUST. If I MUST, then I WILL !

Just to inform everyone that 29 December will be our last practice of year 2006,
and Mr Sim wants the whole band to be there.

So long your name appears under the member's list, you are supposed to turn up.
Section Leaders please get your members to turn up regularly.

Please work with us and make the next band pract an enjoyable one.
Hope to see everyone there (:

In additional, a reminder for everyone,
we will be rehearsing for our SYF in Singapore Conference Hall, 11 Feb 2007 (Sunday)
Please make sure you are free on that day,
it is compulsory for everyone to turn up.

Lastly, I thank those who were there for practices regularly in this holiday,
thank you guys for making the practices possible, for your commitment and passion,
I hope that you can keep this passion going on, making our upcoming concert to its best.

Our next two major projects will be Ignite D' Amore (Feb) and SYF 2007 (April).

Hey hey ! (:

I'm here to inform you guys the principal and teachers had already
confirmed us about Ignite D' Armour !
It will be held in January, however the specific date hasn't been arranged
because scheduling is not easy with the clashes and problems.
But the concert will go on.

Mr Sim will observe this coming 4 practices,
the effort we put in, the attendance for every practice etc.
In any case we don't meet his 'criteria', the concert will be cancelled.

So everyone, please work with us and turn up for every practice,
put in all your efforts and practice all the pieces.
Give others motivation and calls to remind them about practices,
we must keep our passion there if we really have this concert in mind.

Next practice onwards

Please be on time for all practices.
We will be taking action on all latecoming cases from next practice onwards.
Punishment will be set as pumpings starting off at 10,
number of pumpings will be increased if you are late for the next one again.
EXCOS' punishment will be doubled.

Valid reasons will only be accepted with the presence of MC/Parent's letter.

Give each other wake up calls if possible,
help one another so that there won't be any latecomers.

Hey banders:)

Its been a long time since we make music together.Congrats to all for finishing your eoy successfully. Hope to see everyone ready for the concert and practices. 2006 is a breakthrough for the band, esplanade and the competition, hope that we can get more recruits next year and bring band to greater heights. There will be more things coming up for the band so it is really great to see everyone back in great shape.

I'm really glad to hear that our efforts that day were not wasted.
Every individual plays a part in this band, this big family.
We are one Band, we are one KCB.
Let those words run through your mind these few weeks,
and make a great difference when we come together on the next practice after exams.

Hello KCB, it's been long since I blogged here.
Hope what the EXCO said to you guys made a difference in how you think of certain issues.
The EXCO will try our best to build this band up, so help us in any slightest way you can.
Cuz your every effort is gonna help in painting the big picture. (:
